The earth at one time was a super continent and over a vary long period of time it became seperated into the continents and islands as we see today.

The division of the land in the days of Peleg as an answer to this problem is highly improbable. In my mind it refers to middle east when God gave the Patriarchs a portion of it.

De 32:8 When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

Ge 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth(Hebrew meaning is also the Land) divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

Because of the symbiotic relationships between the plant life and the insect kingdom a global flood would totally destroy this.

Australia specifically has animals that are not found anywhere else.

This is one of the reasons I prefer a localised flood to a global catastrophy.

Religion ,reason and rationality cannot be totally divorced.

The periods of time in the Genesis account of the creation are not six 24 hour days. As they could not be measured until the fourth day,

Gen 1:14 ¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Also if you examine the account you will notice that the plant life which is also affected by seasonality, take time to grow and reproduce themselves. Insects like bees and butterflies also affect this process and assist the plants by polinating them.

Science and blind religion are divorced through fundamentalism, when they should be reconciled.

Bear in mind that a flood that lasted aproximately a year would create a mass extinction event,every plant and insect would die. Localised the extinction would be contained whereas a recovery from a global flood within Noahs Family lifespans would be highly unlikely.

Kyk, `n baie dik donker wolkbank, een soos wat die wêreld nog nooit gesien het nie, is besig om saam te pak en dit sal `n ongekende duisternis en rou oor `n groot deel van die Aarde bring.
Sy omvang sal strek vanaf die hele groot Britannia, asook Ierland, vanwaar dit al hoe wyer oor die Atlantiese oseaan sal saampak, om die grootste gedeelte van Noord-Amerika, wat die hele Kanada insluit, te oordek.
Van hier sal dit verder oor die groot oseaan strek, om oor die Filippynse eilande te gaan.
Hierdie swart wolkmassa sal nog verder verdig, om oor Korea tot onder in Viëtnam en Thailand te gaan.
Eers in Indië sal hierdie wolkbank sy einde vind.
